BERGAMO HISTORIC GP 26 May 2024

On Sunday 26 MAY 2024, historic and prestigious racing cars will return to the medieval circuit to compete in the 17th edition of the Bergamo City Cup:

The historical re-enactment of the Bergamo GP which saw Tazio Nuvolari triumph in an Alfa Romeo P3 in 1935 in the Bergamo Historic Gran Prix formula tested for some years with great public success.

The Circuit of the Walls will also be covered this year in a clockwise direction as in 1935, starting from Piazza della Cittadella, through the Porta del Pantano going down from Boccola, the long straight up to the church of S.Agostino and past the challenging curve with change of gradient, the climb of the imposing Viale delle Mura - which offers a breathtaking view of lower Bergamo - then the chicane of Porta S.Giacomo, another straight and the arrival at the finish line.

The track, which measures 2980m, will be closed to traffic. The cars will be exhibited in one of the most beautiful squares in Bergamo: Piazza della Cittadella, restored to its original charm after a long restoration with frescoes, noble coats of arms and the austere gallery.

The heats will take place this year from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm on the historic circuit of the walls, the latter declared a UNESCO heritage site a few months ago.

80 selected vintage racing cars of absolute value, F1 and F Junior cars from the 1950s and 1960s, PRE-WAR GP/SPORT and GTS/SPORT up to 1975 from the most renowned manufacturers, important historic stables, partners of undisputed fame, have promised to participate. characters from the automotive sports world such as the driver BRUNO GIACOMELLI.

Among the already confirmed members are a group of fantastic Pre-war GPs:

MASERATI 26 B, AMILCAR 6C, FIAT COPPADORO, RILEY, SALMSON AND MG MONACO

Among the single-seaters: the F. JUNIOR PATRIARCA, DUSTLE, MORONI and the ABARTH F. ITALIA

Finally many GTSs: PORSCHE 356 and 911, FERRARI 250 GT and 308 GTS, MERCEDES 300 SL,

ALFA ROMEO GT JUNIOR, SPIDER AND ZAGATO, FORD LOTUS CORTINA, AUSTIN HEALEY and SHELBY COBRA 427…

Then, as has become tradition, to commemorate the 10 motorcycle GPs valid for the Italian championship on the circuit of the walls which took place in the 1950s, 2 heats dedicated to historic pre-1975 Grand Prix motorbikes will be added: MV AGUSTA and MONDIAL to remember the great champion CARLO UBBIALI, RUMI, HONDA, TRIUMPH, NORTON, LAVERDA, DUCATI, GILERA…

The event will have great resonance, as in past editions, on the main local and national media - TV, radio and press including Automobilismo D'Epoca, La Manovella and L'Eco di Bergamo.

Finally, we would like to remind you that the event also has a charitable purpose and every year collects a contribution for the non-profit organization Spazio Autismo Bergamo.
