Rover was an English car manufacturer based in Longbridge, Birmingham, which operated as an independent company from 1877 to 1967; subsequently Rover continued to survive as a brand, first within British Leyland (1967-1981), then in the Austin Rover Group (1981-1988), in the Rover Group (1988-2000) and finally in the MG Rover Group (2000-2005 ). After the bankruptcy of the MG Rover group, the rights to use the Rover brand passed first to Ford (2006) and then to the Indian Tata Group (2008), in particular to the subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover.
