Model history and curiosity
The Ford Mustang is an American large midsize sports car produced by the American automaker Ford since 1964.
It is one of the best-selling products in the global automotive industry[citation needed], imitated by many manufacturers and still in production; its original structure derived from the Ford Falcon.
Strongly desired by the manager of the company at the time Lee Iacocca, it could be considered a small muscle car and among the very first pony cars, equipped with a 2.8 liter engine, delivering a power of 105 HP (78 kW); its name derives from that of the wild North American Mustang horses.
THE FIRST SERIES 1964-1973
T-5 project chief engineer Donald N. Frey (who was Lee Iacocca's assistant and engineer), oversaw the overall development of the car in just 18 months. The first prototype they produced was the T-5, a mid-engined two-seat roadster derived from the German Ford Taunus V4.
The following year the original 1962 two-seat concept car was evolved into a four-seat concept car which Ford used to test public reaction and interest before moving to series production of the car.
The final version of the first generation of the Ford Mustang went into production at the end of April 1964, being discontinued at the end of 1973.
