The 1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 OTS (Open Two-Seater) Series 2 represents the final and most refined evolution of the famous six-cylinder roadster prior to the arrival of the V12 engine (Series 3). Produced between 1968 and 1971, the Series 2 combines the original visual appeal created by Malcolm Sayer with significant mechanical and safety refinements, introduced primarily to comply with the strict US regulatory standards of the time.

The engine is a 4,235 cc XK inline-six with dual overhead cams (DOHC); it is fueled by three SU carburetors for the European market and two Zenith-Stromberg carburetors for the US market, delivering approximately 265 hp in European specification and around 246 hp in US specification (due to emissions controls).
It features a fully synchronized 4-speed manual transmission, four-wheel disc brakes with servo-assistance (featuring inboard rear brakes), and independent suspension on all four wheels.

Compared to the first series, the headlights are no longer recessed behind clear glass covers (removed due to US regulations regarding light refraction), and the front bonnet air intake is significantly larger to improve engine cooling. The tail lights and front turn signals were repositioned below the bumpers—becoming noticeably larger and wraparound in style—while the classic metal toggle switches on the dashboard were replaced by plastic rocker switches for safety reasons in the event of a collision. The seats incorporate adjustable headrests, and the steering lock is integrated into the ignition switch.
Dual electric fans and an enlarged radiator were also introduced, resolving the tendency to overheat that was typical of the earlier versions. Power steering was also available as an option.

The 1970 models mark the final year of the Series 2. The 4.2 OTS offers the best road manners of the 6-cylinder XK series: the clutch and synchromesh gearbox are much smoother than those of the 3.8-liter Series 1, low-end torque is robust, and the cabin is significantly more comfortable.
Although its market value is slightly lower than that of the earliest "flat-floor" or "glass-headlight" Series 1 models, the Series 2 OTS remains one of the world's most desirable classic cars, thanks to its excellent balance of pure aesthetics and mechanical usability.
