Model history and curiosity

The 1960 BSA A10 650 Golden Flash is the very essence of the classic English motorcycle: elegant, solid, and built for touring.

Originally created in the early 1950s to challenge Triumph's rivals, by 1960 this bike had reached its perfect, mature form. Its heart is a 650cc twin-cylinder engine that doesn't seek extreme or nervous performance. With its 35 horsepower, it could reach 160 km/h, but its true strength lay elsewhere: smoothness. Riding it meant, and still means, enjoying a full-bodied, smooth thrust even at low revs, all accompanied by the deep, unmistakable sound emanating from the two long, chrome-plated exhausts.

From a riding perspective, the 1960 Golden Flash is a true roadster. Compared to the very early 1950s models, which were decidedly stiffer, this version features suspension that was modern for the time, with a swingarm at the rear that absorbs bumps well. Add to that a thick seat and a frame sturdy enough to attach a sidecar, and you get a motorcycle that's incredibly comfortable for long rides.

It's a real eye-catcher. The name "Golden Flash" comes from the bold gold paint job it was launched with in America. Its iconic teardrop tank and abundance of gleaming chrome make it a timeless object.

In short, while other motorcycles in the same family focused on pure track speed, the Golden Flash was the luxury mule: a reliable and beautiful speed grinder.
