The 1951 MG TD epitomizes the quintessential post-war British roadster, a model that was pivotal to the success of the MG (Morris Garages) brand in both Europe and the United States.
Introduced in late 1949 to replace the TC, the MG TD retained the classic, boxy 1930s-style bodywork—featuring prominent fenders and an upright radiator grille—while introducing significant technical innovations beneath the chassis.

Key Technical Specifications:
- 1,250 cc "XPAG" inline-4 engine with twin SU carburetors, producing approximately 54 hp at 5,200 rpm;
- 4-speed manual transmission;
- Top speed of approximately 125 km/h;
- Independent front suspension with coil springs (derived from the MG Y-Type saloon) and rack-and-pinion steering (offering a marked improvement in handling precision).

Approximately 80% of all MG TDs produced were exported to the United States, captivating American drivers and enthusiasts with the allure of European "lightweight sports cars."
Compared to the earlier TC, the TD featured 15-inch steel wheels instead of the classic wire wheels (which became available as an option only later), a more rigid box-section chassis, and independent suspension that drastically improved ride comfort and road-holding.
The 1,250 cc XPAG engine is renowned for its ease of maintenance. Most mechanical and body parts are still manufactured today by British and American specialists.
