Model history and curiosity

The Alfa Romeo 2600s are a series of cars produced by the Italian automaker Alfa Romeo from 1962 to 1969. The 2600 range includes the 2600 sedan, designed and built directly at the Portello plant in Milan, the 2600 Spider (until 1965), and the 2600 Sprint, with bodies designed and built by Touring and Bertone respectively.

It is the last Alfa Romeo to feature a twin-cam inline-6 engine.

The main differences between the Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint (produced by Bertone) Series 1 and Series 2, produced between 1962 and 1966, do not concern the engine (which remained essentially the same with the 145 hp inline-6 engine), but focus on aesthetic and interior refinements, and, above all, the braking system.

Here are the key differences: Braking System (Main Difference):

Series 1: Usually equipped with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.

Series 2: Also introduced rear disc brakes, offering a four-disc braking system. Interior and Trim: The second series featured a wood-finished dashboard, while the first series had different trim. The quality of interior materials was generally improved in the subsequent series, with more extensive use of leather.

Aesthetic Details: Although the line designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone remained unchanged (characterized by the air intake on the hood), the Series 2 benefited from small detail updates. The clearest distinction, also used in historical records, is made by the chassis number, with the second series improving active safety with four-disc brakes.
