Model history and curiosity
Once production began, the Augusta immediately met with favor with the Italian public, who quickly fell in love with the "Vettura Leggera" (the advertising name for the Augusta, previously used for the Lambda). Sales boomed, so much so that the Augusta generated significant profits for Lancia; it was the company's first truly major financial success, even more so than the Lambda. It was also the first Lancia built on an assembly line with its own machine tools and model-specific equipment. With the Augusta, Lancia found itself at the pinnacle of national production in terms of not only product technology, but also production methods and industrialization.
There was a point in 1935 when 90% of Lancia's industrial activity was absorbed by the Augusta, with excellent results. It could be said at that time that the Augusta was to Lancia what the Model T, and later the Model A, was to Ford. The one-of-a-kind model.
The Augusta 231 was produced in a single series from February 8, 1933 (construction number 1) to December 14, 1936 (production number 14101). The sedan was designated the 231, while the coachbuilt chassis was designated the 234. The French production of the Belna was F231 and F234, respectively.
The story many wrote in the 1960s and 1970s (and even later) that the Augusta was produced in three series is based on gross errors that, through repeated repetition, seem to have become true.
