Description

Available for you in our collection is a splendid example of the Maserati Mexico 4200, one of the 305s assembled in Modena with this engine. The body was then rebodied by the Vignale craftsmen in Turin, designed by Virginio Vairo. This car features a very elegant and fully equipped interior: Grigio Argento, ANSA exhaust, and Borrani chrome spoke wheels for the exterior, and black leather with wood trim for the interior, complemented by a radio, air conditioning, electric windows, and power steering.
Equipped with original black license plates from the province of Milan and registered with ASI with CRS, this wonderful coupé has had three owners throughout its history, the last of which in 2021, with barely 76,000 kilometers on the clock.
Numerous works were carried out by the last owner:
- Replacement of the electrical wiring;
- Tankerization of the fuel tank;
- Replacement of the fuel pump and lines;
- Replacement of the ANSA mufflers;
- Front and rear shock absorbers replaced;
- Overhaul of the Borrani chrome spoke wheels.
If you're a Maserati collector or enthusiast looking for a stunning convertible that embodies the golden age of the Trident brand, don't miss out!

Model history and curiosity

The Maserati Mexico (project code Tipo AM112) is one of the most refined grand tourers produced by the Trident brand, a true "traveling lounge" that combines pure sports car performance with quintessential 1960s Italian luxury. It was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October 1966, after a preview at the Rimini Concours d'Elegance. Its name is linked to a curious sporting coincidence: in 1966, John Surtees won the Mexican Formula 1 Grand Prix at the wheel of a Cooper-Maserati, an event that inspired the choice of name for this new road-going coupé.
Designed by Vignale, the line is distinguished by a sober and timeless elegance, inspired by the 1963 Quattroporte, but with smaller dimensions and a 2+2 configuration.
The Mexico represented Maserati's technological excellence in those years. Under that long, slender hood beat a V8 derived directly from racing, the same one that pushed Maseratis to victory on circuits around the world. It was derived from the 450S and was available in 4.2 and 4.7 displacements, with 260 and 290 horsepower respectively. At the time, the Mexico was at the top of its segment for its equipment. It was the first production Maserati to be equipped with self-ventilating and power-assisted disc brakes on all four wheels, a meticulously crafted interior that featured a wooden dashboard, high-quality leather trim, and a comprehensive instrumentation (often Veglia Borletti). This was in addition to a list of options that were cutting-edge for the time, including air conditioning, power steering, a radio, an automatic transmission, and Borrani wire wheels. These are often mistakenly thought to be reserved only for the most powerful version (4.7), but were actually an option available across the entire range.
The Maserati Mexico was produced between 1966 and 1972, and although exact figures may vary slightly depending on the historical sources, a total production run of around 485 units is estimated, making it a highly sought-after piece today among collectors seeking a representative car with a sporty heart.
It is a car that perfectly represents that golden age in which Maserati managed to be, simultaneously, a protagonist of the track and a queen of the international jet-set.
