Model history and curiosity

In 1979, the 928 S was launched, with a displacement increased to 4664 cm³ and a power output of 217 kW (295 hp). The standard 928, with a 4.5 L engine and a power output of 173 kW (235 hp), remained in the price list only in the version with automatic transmission. In 1982, the 928 S Automatic was launched with a 217 kW (295 hp) engine. In the following years, Porsche dedicated itself to the development of the model which, in 1986, adopted an engine with a head with 4 valves per cylinder and a displacement increased to 4957 cm³. The power increased to 240 kW (320 hp) and 430 N⋅m of maximum torque at 3000 rpm. At the same time, the bodywork was retouched for the first time, especially at the rear (new lights, different tail panel, new spoiler and redesigned bumpers), at the front (new bumper), in the interior and in other minor details (such as plastic profiles). To underline the new head, the model took the name of 928 S4.
