Model history and curiosity

The 2008 Mercedes C 63 AMG (W204) is considered a true legend among sports car enthusiasts.

Behind its sedan lines lie unique details and anecdotes: 1. The "lying" engine (reduced to suit hierarchy) The 6.2-liter V8 engine (designated M156) was the exact same block fitted to larger models like the E 63, CLS 63, and S 63. In those cars, it delivered well over 500 hp. On the C-Class, it was electronically reduced to 457 hp solely for reasons of corporate hierarchy, so that the smallest and most affordable of the range wouldn't outperform the flagships. Tuning experts, in fact, simply remapped the ECU to instantly unlock the "hidden" horsepower.

2. The name is a mathematical approximation. The trunk sports the lettering "6.3," a historic tribute to the legendary Mercedes engine of the 1960s (the M100). In reality, the exact displacement of the 2008 C 63 engine is 6,208 cc. Technically, according to mathematical rounding rules, the car should have been called the C 62 AMG, but the allure of the "6.3" badge overrode mathematical rigor.

3. It has a unique "wide" body. At first glance, it looks like a regular C-Class, but its front end shares almost nothing with the standard versions. To fit the enormous V8 engine under the hood, AMG engineers had to lengthen the front axle, widen the wheel arches, and completely redesign the front suspension, borrowing it from the larger CLK 63 AMG Black Series.

4. The American "Hot Rod" Sound Unlike its rivals of the time (such as the E92 BMW M3, which had a high-revving V8 with a motorcycle-like sound), the C 63 AMG stood out for its deep, thunderous, and deep sound. At idle and under acceleration, it was very reminiscent of American muscle cars, a characteristic that made it the car with the most recognizable sound of the 2000s.
