Model history and curiosity
The A15T chassis prefix identifies the latest evolution of the very first Piaggio Ape 125 model (the historic "Ape A"), produced between 1951 and 1952.
Introduced to the market starting in 1948 using the engine and front end of the Vespa "Faro Basso" (like the V11T), the series with the codes A1T to A15T represents the very origin of the Italian three-wheeler. The A15T acronym specifically indicates the final production batches of this first 125 cc displacement, before the definitive transition to the subsequent 150 cc "Ape B."
Main Features: "Handlebar" structure: It did not yet have a true enclosed cabin. The driver sat on a motorcycle-style saddle and steered the vehicle using classic tubular handlebars, protected to the maximum by an optional curved windshield attached to the front.
Configurations: It left the factory in several body variants: wooden box (the most common), van (closed box), or the very rare "Giardinetta" / Calessino configuration.
Mechanics: Single-cylinder, 2-stroke, 125cc engine derived from the Vespa, but coupled to a rear axle with differential and chain drive for cargo transport.
